Michelle Meyers Charged with Kidnapping, Conspiracy, False Endangerment

The former Channel 9 News reporter, Michelle Meyers, has been formally charged with kidnapping and 18 counts of both conspiracy and false endangerment

Weeks ago, Meyers kidnapped a woman described by the District Attorney, Jonathan Colbert, as “an associate of Adonis.”  Meyers did not harm the woman, but her confrontation with Adonis did lead the NRPD to investigate her other illegal activities.  These consist of paying supervillains to “capture” her so that Adonis would then save her.  A past romantic relationship between them is speculated as the reason for her behavior.

Since the 1930s, several superheroes have been known as Adonis, and almost all of them have had a female journalist as a love interest.  The reason for this is unknown, but Meyers was the current love interest for this generation’s Adonis, and she had previously broken the record for most saves by one superhero.  The first love interest of Adonis was Janice McManis, which was the name Meyers used to rent the van involved in the kidnapping.

The NRPD and Peace Force continue to investigate the supervillains Meyers had hired for the false captures.  Most have been cooperative in supplying information about her activities, but the NRPD and Peace Force are looking into where the money went after Meyers paid them.

Meyers has been kept in her own private wing of County Jail as she awaits her next court hearing in the next week or two.  Altogether, the charges set against her, if found guilty, would send Meyers to prison for the next 40-50 years.

Cape Finder Used by Meyers in Kidnapping Case

The popular app, Cape Finder, is facing new scrutiny after it was revealed by the NRPD that Michelle Meyers used it to track Adonis and kidnap a woman.

Arturo Studios, the maker of Cape Finder, released the app several months ago as a “fun way to watch superheroes” and to “crowdsource the movements of supervillains”.  Upon its release, several attorneys for superheroes expressed concern over the potential for supervillains to track them and their families.  Now it looks like those concerns have come to pass.

“Ms. Meyers used the app Cape Finder on her phone and her laptop,” read an NRPD statement, “to track the movements of Adonis for the past two months.  She used the pins of other users to specifically target Adonis.  She followed his movements and the movements of the people he was with, using that knowledge to commit her fake rescue encounters and to kidnap a woman in an effort to confront Adonis.  It was integral to her plans.”

Arturo Studios released its own statement, following the police report.  “We’re shocked, dismayed, and offended that someone would use our product in such a destructive manner.  We apologize to Adonis and to the woman who was kidnapped.  This was not the intent of the app, and most people have not used it as such.  Many of our users love it for telling them where to look in the sky for their favorite superheroes.  That being said, we have disabled our servers for the time being while we figure out a way to make our product safer.”

This statement may not save Cape Finder or Arturo Studios.  According the CNET, the app has already been deleted from 50,000 devices in the past two hours.  “So many people are just getting rid of it,” said CNET editor, Marleen Franken.  “And I don’t know how they can retool the product to ‘make it safer’ when the whole point of the app is to track superpeople.”

“You might as well try to get Facebook to stop reading your profile to sell you ads.”

Multiplier Clones His Way Out of Police Custody

The multiplier, who stole the rare quantillium shipment several weeks ago, was caught by the NRPD in a raid in an East Town tenement, until he cloned his way out of police custody.

The raid by the NRPD began yesterday afternoon after a tip was received to gang activity in the Hoffman Tenement.  It’s not known who the police were going in after, but sources said that the multiplier was not part of the tip-off.  The police did not say who they arrested, but the only superhuman was the multiplier.

Police barged in and began firing stun beams to subdue the alleged gang members.  After a short fight, the gang members, caught by surprise, surrendered.  The multiplier, whose identity is still unknown, was among those arrested.  The NRPD proceeded to pack the 14 alleged gang members into police vans, and it was at this moment that the multiplier began multiplying.

In a matter of seconds, one man turned into 24, overwhelming the police.  He even sent three officers flying 15 feet into the air.  The multipliers fought some of the remaining officers, got into the police vans, and drove away.  Some multipliers ran away on foot, generating more clones to make their escape.

Only one alleged gang member didn’t make the escape.  Sources identified him as Sam “Juggsy” Jalone, a low-level henchman and gun trafficker.  He’s been taken into custody for questioning.  Police are asking the public to be on the lookout for men who look the same (assuming they aren’t twins or triplets).

In a bizarre series of revelations last night, Channel 9 News reporter Michelle Meyers was arrested for kidnapping and setting up fake crimes so she could be rescued by Adonis.

Meyers has been saved a record number 30 times by Adonis, but that number will surely go down.  Last night, Meyers allegedly kidnapped a woman, whose identity will not be released by the NRPD due to her supposed ties to Adonis.  State law prohibits the release of the identities of people close to registered superheroes when they’re victims of a crime.

The kidnapping allegedly took place yesterday afternoon in a back alley in Johnsmar, where a rental van, rented by Meyers, was parked for an hour.  One resident noticed the van speeding away around 2:45pm.  That van turned up at a warehouse in Jamestown.

Adonis arrived at the warehouse at around 6 pm and defeated the henchmen who were guarding the facility.  He entered to find Meyers holding a woman over a vat of chemicals (later discovered to be liquid green gelatin) via a crane.  Adonis saved the woman and apprehended Meyers.

The reason for the kidnapping was not revealed, and Adonis and the Peace Force were silent on the issue.  The NRPD arrived to arrest Meyers, and the woman was safely returned home.

Adonis also learned that Meyers has been paying supervillains to “capture” her in a ploy to be rescued by Adonis.  It’s unknown how many supervillains she hired.  Her reasons for doing this were not revealed to the public, but Adonis seemed to be “shaken up” by the ordeal, according to sources at the scene.

Meyers faces kidnapping charges as well as multiple conspiracy charges.  If convicted at the maximum penalty, she could spend the next 40 years in prison.

Rare Quantillium Shipment Stolen by Apparent Multiplier

    By Packie Williams

A shipment of the rare space rock, quantillium, was being transported from the docks to ATOM Labs for research purposes last night, when the armored van was hijacked by masked men, at least one of whom was a multiplier.

The shipment of quantillium, a rock from the Mark-9 Solar System, was meant as a gift from the Thranzxians to Earth for the Peace Force’s role in saving their planet from a swarm of telepathic insects last year.  Quantillium has many unique energy-absorbing properties that not even the Thranzxians fully understand.  The gift, which weighed no more than a few pounds, was to be examined and studied by ATOM Labs, under the supervision of Dr. Amazing.

The quantillium was initially received in Paris and then shipped to New Romford by boat.  It was being delivered discretely at night because an ounce is worth millions on the black market.  Somehow, news of the shipment leaked, and three men surrounded the armored van using two semis and a forklift.

A firefight followed between the guards and the masked men.  The guards reported that only three men were involved in the robbery, but more masked men appeared after they threw smoke bombs at the van.  The masked men, who were dressed in black like the men in the Winston National Bank robbery a few weeks ago, overpowered the guards, knocking them out and driving away with the armored van.

The NRPD responded to the alarm sounded by the guards as the robbery began and chased them down Miller Road.  After winding through downtown for nearly 15 minutes, the masked men turned down an alley on 18th St and unloaded the shipment.  The police followed them on foot, and during the chase, one of the masked men split into two in front of an officer.  Then it was impossible for the police to capture the robbers as they kept multiplying.

Unfortunately, the robbers made it out with the quantillium, but now that a superhuman is involved with the case, the Peace Force has assigned two members to search for the culprits.  Neither the NRPD or ATOM Labs would comment on the record about the incident.

The pressure on the NRPD to end the mysterious Dukes thefts is rising as another spat of homes were robbed yesterday.  In total, 59 homes have been robbed, and the NRPD have classifieds these as robberies.

“These are without a doubt the work of a superhuman,” said Police Commissioner Trombeau.  “Someone is breaking into people’s homes and stealing their possessions.  We’re not sure who is doing this, but we will stop this.”

Mayor Lawrence has tasked every police officer in the Downtown and Dukes boroughs with finding any bit of information they can.  “We’re still recovering from the Dino-Day Disaster,” he said, “and this cannot continue when people are trying to get back on their feet.”  When asked if the Peace Force would be asked to join the investigation, Lawrence said, “We haven’t gotten to that level yet.  Some of the smaller, street-level heroes may be on the case as we speak, but I can’t say whether or not that’s happening.”

The thefts all have left the home owners’ scratching their heads as to how the thief entered their houses and emptied their bank accounts.  Often, they are left in a daze some time after the theft, which may mean their minds or bodies were tampered with in some way.  This would be a powers-based assault, and if convicted, can lead to at least 10 years in prison, depending on severity.

But the physical assault is no match for the psychological assault.  “I just don’t know how to protect my family, right now,” said Jim Carter-Scholl, whose house was robbed yesterday afternoon.  “Locks and safes didn’t stop this, whatever it was, so I don’t know what to do now.  That’s what really scares me.”

Winston National Bank Robbed During Memorial

While the Peace Force, Mayor Lawrence, and the NRPD were attending the memorial for those lost during the Dino-Day Disaster at Two Rivers Park, Winston National Bank was robbed by four masked men, the first successful big bank robbery in 24 years.

The masked men did not appear to be part of supervillain’s gang as they were dressed head-to-toe in black.  They rushed into the downtown branch of Winston National Bank with smoke grenades, subduing the security guards.  Civilians were rounded up and tied up to the hand rails on the far side of the bank.  A teller hit the silent alarm, but the subsequent police investigation found that it had been disarmed prior to the robbery.  An explosive was used to open the vault, and the masked men filled their duffel bags with cash and escaped via the alley.

The robbery lasted just under five minutes.  No police or superhero responded to the incident.

It was the first successful big bank robbery in New Romford in 24 years.  Many experts thought that bank robberies of this scale were a thing of the past.  “We have so many superheroes in this city,” said NRU criminology professor Carl Cram, “and they always catch the robbers before they escape.  People routinely rob the smaller branch banks out in the suburbs where the superhero presence is lower, but these people timed their hit well.”

“It’s not a coincidence that they hit this bank during the memorial.”

Winston National Bank refused to say how much money was stolen, but it is believed to be in the millions.  The NRPD declined to comment on the lack of police response or whether the DDD memorial had any effect on their response time.  The Peace Force stated they had several members patrolling the streets today, but they were “caught up in other activities at the time.”
